It hit the fan

well, to bring you guys up to speed, here is what happend this weekend.

i told my wife how i was feeling and why i didn't believe the wt was not god's org.

it went pretty bad.

I stand corrected about the Seventh Day Adventists as I don't know what they do to former members. I did not really mean to lump them in with the others as far as shunning goes, just the history of their beginning. But, I have read stories of former Mormons and Scientologists that experienced the same type of treatment that witnesses experience when they leave.

I've know both Mormans and Seventh Day Adventists....Over the years I have had several Morman friends... some are active and some are not. NONE have ever been shunned, it's just not their policy. In fact, I asked a couple of my friends and they said that if someone is disfellowshipped, members of the congregation are to make a special effort to make that person not feel shunned and to give them some extra emotional and social support. Sounds like what you read is just "stories", or "sour grape" stories from someone with an ax to grind.

why did jesus do miracles?.

it is alledged that some 2000 years ago a man claimed to be the son of god , or even god himself (depends what religion you are).. in order to give some weight to his cliam he did some miracles, cured a few lepers, made a slap up lunch out of some fish and bread, and took a walk on some water.. all this to prove he was gods son.. but to prove it to who?.

if you ask a witness why god doen't perform miracles today , what do they say.. we don't need miracles today we have it all written in the bible.. der.

What's in a name...a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet. NATURAL PHILOSOPY was the SCIENCE of it's day. (You are correct sir.) The German scientist Zilsel (20th Century) said that the basic task of science is the discovery and understanding of the LAWS OF NATURE....now isn't it interesting that when Plato died in 347 B.C., Aristotle left his school giving the reason he didn't like the growing emphasis on mathematics and theory and the decline in natural philosophy (SCIENCE).

Throughout mankind the the phrase could be used "science as we know it". My point is science evolves with new discoveries. What was once thought 'brilliant' could be cast aside with 'what were they thinking'.

A Word about Crackpots

a water bearer in india had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which he carried across his shoulders.

one of the pots had a crack in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.. .

at the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

So, just out of curiosity, at what point in time did the books of the bible actually start to matter? When does Genesis stopy being a scientific nightmare and become a moving tale of the creation of the universe?

I guess that depends on who you were. If you were a ancient Persian or Hun or most of mankind, it didn't matter. If you were reading the scrolls on the sabbath in the synogogue it mattered. The Bible will always have diffent sides arguing its validity - to some it is a scientific nightmare to others a 'clue' to the creation of the universe. But then again, what makes ever-changing science the expert. Centuries ago, in their day, the renown "scientists" thought the Earth was the center of the Universe which the Sun revolved around, the Earth was flat, and with the early (but pathetic)microscopes, the scientists believed that what we now know is sperm was "little men".

That's clever, but rather lame. Comic books have only been around for about 70 years and are a commercial product of writers of fiction. The writings (books) of the Bible stretch back thousands of years, were historical, prophetic and anecdotal - written for reference and study, not as an item of commerce.

a new person with a familiar story.....

so...i have been involved with jws for 21 years, have a wonderful husband and 4 wonderful daughters( i am so lucky!!!

) and for a year or so have been steadily leaving the org.it didnt amswer my questions or satisfy my needs at first- but then i started to do my own searching and found out alot of things that were just wrong.

my oldest daughter decided to da herself and i knew that i would never turn my back on her.

You sound like a very level-headed person who can think for themselves. Keep prayerfully searching with an open mind and 'truth' will speak to you. Enjoy life...it's one of God's greatest gifts.

White Racist Churches.

for a number of years now i have been involved with churches that would be labelled "racist".

white supremacist churches.. there have been two of these i have associated with: .

the "church of israel" which (until recently) was run by a man called dan gayman.a preacher who preached from the pulpit with a gun on his hip.. the other was that movement which is referred to as "identity".. christian identity.. both of these churches tended to be seperationist.
